He definitely gets on my nerves, but I can’t bring myself to hate him either. His intentions weren’t clear from the start (nice? mean? manipulative? a little bit of everything?) and I mostly get the impression that the author deliberately set things up so we’d form our own opinions about him.
So yes, he should have told the truth from the start instead of hiding the fact that he’s the stepmother’s son, but from the beginning we only get the MC’s and the ML’s perspectives. So I don’t think that’s enough to make him such a horrible character.
Personally, I think it’s the father who’s the real jerk. And I’d be happier seeing his son punch him in the face than the scene we just saw.
