So what I’m talking about with the therapist thing is purely that the last line of this chapter indicates, at least to me, that yes, he’s trying to break through Mimi’s trauma (possibly intentionally giving him the cold shoulder as part of that? that was my read but yours might be different) – that’s going a bit beyond being there to help him into territory that a professional should probably be handling 😂 Help him within your reasonable capacity to do so!
Having said that, this is a comic and the ONLY reason I even mention it is because the author seems to wanna take the topic seriously and I really appreciate their efforts there. Otherwise, I would absolutely totally handwave it. 😂

What I like to voice out is (I haven’t read the early chapters for so long at this point so I am not sure if it’s true) I don’t know or remember if he ever claim that he dated before or if this is his first love but to be honest I have seen that even though he was a student he has this Alone atmosphere, we all have that, so having to finally have big guy (stone guy) in his life, it made his life brighter of course he ended up losing that person he love and I know how that felt, very devastated, so I understand that his actions or what he’s doing can come off as immature or very rash but… if I were in that position and finally saw someone I love again only to realize they don’t remember me and I have to start all over. the feeling I had for them would still remain but now I have to ignore this feeling and start over with someone I just met. In zhang li case However, weeks or a atleast a month or two, zhang li finally get to see mimi in a different light that he never saw in the previous world, his good side and of course his bad side. At that point zhang li had always been doing things just to get close to mimi and you can see that but at the same time, he changed. Not only does he want to still get close to him but he want to help him, he couldn’t bare seeing the weight that mimi is carrying that’s why he wanted him to let him in. Although zhangli felt a new feeling for him, he loves him. Not him being a reflection of big guy but him as a whole… Becuase he lost big guy once. That fear and in a way his own trauma made his motives as I said before, rash. But that’s why In this chapter, and the previous, you can tell that he just… he needed to distance himself even if he was being harsh, he needed to leave. Otherwise, like anyone, our emotion will take over, we can’t handle it and although he is in his 20s I have seen people including myself who can’t be near someone we love at that moment in time after a rejection, it’s not that he’s against being friends with mimi…. It’s a little more complicated than that. He NEEDED to force himself to let go. He needed time, or atleast, he needed to get out of there , if he don’t, he will end up letting out his fustration and his emotion all at once… everything he had to put up with from the beginning to now would catch up to him, and he also admits half of he’s doing was alwyas trying to get close to mimi but and most of the hardship he had to face was to get to know him that he couldn’t so… and for the last statement I like to point out, I am honestly not sure how to feel about zhangli saying that they can go back to how things are giving special treatments even if their not dating, it’s not as close to friends with benefits it’s more like a close friend way in most peoples eyes? But In this kind of manhua story it’s like saying your being toyed with or the feelings can be misleading. Either way! I wanted to say more but for mimis case it’s pretty justified it’s just zhang li is pretty right also though, that is not a rejection you can’t have both. Although you can be friends though! It’s just gonna be a bit hard for zhang li. In any case it seems now that he knows Mimi’s actual feelings zhang li won’t give up in trying to have him open up more. However he does want an answer whether it’s a an answer or an actual rejection. Zhang li does deserve to know and at the end? That’s his decision to make. He can finally live his own life and move on, and sure he’ll write letters to catch up. And as for mimi I really hope that he can slowly open up and lower down his trauma just a little it’s okay to be insecure and not ready for letting anyone in but it’s also okay to lean on someone once in awhile especially one that u clearly like XD!

They might be sometimes acting childish, but all people do that, no matter pf all. Overall they act pretty mature and i love that. And for Mimi personally it can be understandable, he has never even been in a relationship.
@MissEve also in the fisrt chapter it is explained how Zhang Li got into archaeology expedition. He got there himself, because the history if Eblis (im sorry if I spelled it wrong) interested him since he was a child.
@MissEve yes, Zhang Li is not a therapist (he is a doctor, not an archaeologist) but still trying to do his best to help Mimi. You don’t need to be a therapist to try to comfort your friends and help them to get over the trauma. And no, he can’t “just encourage him to continue trying” It’s obviously will not work. Mimi already stopped himself so many times from getting with other people. Just telling him that everything will be fine if he continues will not help because he is already deeply convinced himself that he only can bring harm to other people.
Obviously, Zhang Li will not stop trying to get closer to Mimi. He does all of this things so Mimi can finally be honest with himself and Zhang Li that he does in fact has feelings for him. Mimi can’t just spend his whole life stopping himself from getting closer with Zhang Li while fantasising about them being together. Nothing will change, the trauma will continue to grow and might even get worse.
Be leaving Zhang Li helps Mimi to understand all these things. Of course, that choice won’t heal his struggles. But it will help him ti finally gain confidence to change something in his life, because he is afraid of losing someone he loves. Either way, Mimi will just spend rest pf his life in his trauma, loving other people, but stopping himself from any close relationship.
(Oh and I make that joke but maybe what the author was trying to convey was that he’d been alone at night in the fantasy valley of the kings – very silly thing to do for MANY reasons – and had stumbled on a COMPLETELY ILLEGAL dig, not a legitimate one that somebody had been tipped off about)
