Yes, IIRC from reading the novel, this is supposed to be happening simultaneously but I think the manhua focused on the main story first before exploring the side stories. It will probably not be so confusing to novel readers but to those experiencing the story for the first time through the manhua and w/o any side knowledge, it really is quite confusing
