Sijin was ordered to capture innocent people. He thought placing them in prison would at least save their lives from the current monarch but it was a trap. The prisons were all furnaces to make a pill to make the monarch more powerful. Sijin didn’t know that he was sending all these innocent people to their deaths… and he didn’t know then that the monarch also wanted to take his core’s power. So… in the eyes of the public, Sijin was the enemy who slaughtered many innocent people and the old bastard was planning to use this excuse to punish MC and take his core’s power when he’s sent to prison, completing the pill. The old bastard made a mistake of confessing his evil plan to Sijin, thinking Sijin would not be able to do anything / retaliate against him. Sijin killed the old bastard to atone for the slaughter that he indirectly was involved in. Sijin is not really guilty of murder as he didn’t know, but the old bastard got into his mind and made him feel guilty because Sijin didn’t investigate the prisons’ structures. Who would have known the prison itself was a furnace?
