AH so I may have misunderstood – I thought he was looking through his own call history trying to call Wenjing because he was lonely and that when he said “I should have saved his number” he was being like “darn I should have saved it which one is him”, but I think what’s actually going on is that Shangjin is calling him just now when he’s feeling lonely because aww connection or whatever (🙄) and he’s saying “I should have saved his number” as in a slightly grammatically wonky version of “that can’t be Wenjing because I would have his number saved in my phone”.
Ok ok ok so if THATS the case it sounds like he still doesn’t know if he has the number?? Which would mean he…hasn’t looked in his phone to check old texts and stuff? Especially after seeing someone who he thinks he might have been sexually involved with, wouldn’t he want to see if he could identity texts between them???
Also is this just…his phone? And if so why the FUCK hasn’t this call happened earlier? I’m assuming though we’re going to find out that it’s a new phone and Shangjin has threatened someone for the digits in the next chapter. Cool.
