man I didn’t read the story I just skipped to the part where the mc dies expecting satisfaction and happiness so how tf did I end up with 10 boxes of tissues and a flooded room??? Imma go and add the manhua and novel to my reading list now QAQ
Ah, thanks!!! I must have been thrown off by a little inconsistency in how old the child versions of the characters look 😂
That’s actually kind of a shame – I kind of would have appreciated the nuance!!! But I guess everyone against the ML in these historical ones in particular has to be evil evil evil, hey 😂😂😂 oh well! At least the manhua added SOME nuance, and I’ll take it!
@Miss eve at that moment Qi Changfeng was indeed targetting Pei Zheng for being a filthy beggar, because this event happens before their mother got accused of treason. Back then Pei Zheng was still abandoned by his family and the brothers were still favored princes but Chang Yi was more loved by the Emperor than Chang Feng because he was smart, kind and looked more like his mom. So Chang Feng wasn’t fond of Chang Yi, that’s why he set him up for that fall from the wall.
Also the scene some chapters ago about Chang Feng giving Yi’er a horse only happens in the manhua, in the novel Chang Feng had nothing to do with Yi’ers escape from the wedding. In fact, at that point Chang Feng was still envious of Yi’er, but now not of the Emperor’s favor but of having both General Tang and Pei Zheng protecting him, while he had lost favor on the court because of accusing Pei Zheng of being behind their mother’s death without evidence (actually it was Pei’s family the ones behind it but not Pei Zheng)
Omg, so I just read back of make sure I had all the context for what’s going on and I JUST REALIZED: all this is happening because Changfeng *thinks or knows Pei gave over the info that caused their mother to kill herself* – he wasn’t randomly targeting Pei because he was a smelly peasant, it was SUPER on purpose, and lashed out at Yi’er *because he thought Yi’er was siding with Pei over their mum*
Whether or not he was right I suppose remains to be seen – I kind of hope, since there’s no stopping Pei and Yi’er getting together (vomit), that he makes nice with them properly (I did see that last scene as compassion for his little brother and correctly observing that he simply couldn’t keep up with imperial machinations) and becomes emperor whilst they go off to give Yi’er the simple life he obviously needs and Pei could frankly seriously benefit from as well, since he ought to be in charge of exactly nothing and nobody
@autumn moon It’s a shame that Yi’er lil cat wasn’t included in the manhua, I wanted to see him 🥲 Pei Zheng kinda had the feel right away about Yi’er identity because of Yi’ers lil cat that recognized him the first time they met 🤭
for those who want to know more: before Yi’ers fall he liked a cat that appeared one day in Pei Zheng’s manor. This cat got scared and scratched Yi’ers hand so Pei got angry of him being hurt and ordered the cat to be thrown away, Yi’er pleaded for him and the cat survived and often appeared back again for Yi’er.
After Yi’er fell, and during the years he was gone, Pei Zheng adopted the cat and doted on him, bringing him everywhere. The cat was fierce so no one else could touch him but the first time Pei and Yi’er met again, the lil cat clinged right away to Yi’er even though he was disguised 🤭
The princess is in love with Pei — obsessed actually but Pei never married her but he didn’t return her to the Palace, either. She’s not a concubine or a wife she’s just there but she acts like she’s the Madam of Pei’s manor.
She hates Yi’Er’s new identity because even though his face is different Pei still treats him especially well. Even though none of them know he is Yi’Er. Yi’Er also lost his memories since falling from the cliff l…
The princess ends having an intimate relationship with someone who becomes acquaintances with Yi’Er (Also a student studying medicine) and becomes pregnant but claims the baby belongs to Pei and asks the Queen to force the marriage but Pei has evidence that the baby is not his and evidence of the Princess’ affair.
The one who saved Pei was Yi’Er but his brother somehow realized this and used it to his advantage. In this chapter he realized too late. Yi’Er was actually very smart and talented when he was young and the Emperor loved him a lot because of this and also because he looked so much like his mother. But after that ‘accident’ (if you can even call it that) he became ‘dumb’ as people would say, but his kind and good nature remained. Yi’Er’s brother always wanted to be crown prince so maybe this is why he did that.
Yi’Er is alive and is being taken care of by a relative from his mother’s clan and they both don’t know it until late in the novel.
He and Pei will cross paths, Yi’Er will study medicine and come to Pei’s mansion but Pei won’t recognize him because of the ‘flesh mask’ that hides his true face but the red tattoo Pei gave him would sometimes appear causing Pei to question his identity.
No matter if it was back then when he was smart or later when he had mental dissabilities Chang Yi has always been a kind person towards everyone, specially towards Pei Zheng, always trying to help him 😿 my baby 😿😿
What’s more depressing is that his own brother pushed him to fall….. And how can you even got confused about the person who saved you. You thought his brother saved you but actually he is the one who ordered to beat you. You are the one with blockhead. Stupid idiot scumbag… No wonder, in some first chapters pei used to treat his brother with respect.
Yeah, you should be the one to die, so off you pop, go on
Also, what exactly is with the obsession with childlike behaviour due to brain damage in these stories. Especially when the person in question has white hair. That’s weird, man.
Can’t believe the *one time* Yi’er tried to help a peasant it turned out to be this dickhead. Honestly I’m kind of with his brother on this one 😂😂😂
That’s so 😭😭😭 and that damn 4th brother, the one who actually ruined Yier’s whole life since the start was him 🥲 how many great things Yier would have done already if he didn’t suffer brain damage from that fall off the wall that day, and all the bullying and suffering he could have avoided 😭
Wahhh!!! There was such a misunderstanding between them. He thought his elder saved him but it turned out to be yier. Well you deserve all these suffering. Please enjoy your suffering.
