Summary
The ninth prince, Qi Changyi, inherited his mother’s beauty but he is a little slow. Pei Zheng, the current prime minister, is positioned above everyone else, second to only the emperor himself. He handles matters swiftly and is well-known for his ruthlessness. However, his cold heart was gradually melted by Changyi. He thought that the little fool could be kept in the palm of his hand forever. However, it never crossed his mind that the little fool would leave him after getting his heart broken. With reddened eyes, he searched everywhere like a mad demon, to no avail. “Without you, I can never be happy in this lifetime. Your highness, where must I go to find you?”

@blumhanae well I’m not saying that Pei Zheng wasn’t a bad person before, he was in the manhua and he was even worse in the novel at the beginning 😅 But that was the point the author wanted to make because It’s all part of the plot. It’s not what one would expect but the story is not about revenge, is about character development, making different choices while being the same person and redemption for the ML and the MC too (and ofc it is a love story too with love being the reason behind the changes). But anyways I’m sure the manhua will have to make a good redemption work out somehow because that is the whole point of having Pei Zheng be cruel in the beginning. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise.

Spoilers ahead:
Girl even if PZ didn’t have anything to do w mcs moms murder, that is not at all the only bad thing he did towards the mc. He abused, caged, manipulated, isolated, raped and stalked him. And there is literally no change, not with his behavior towards others nor QCY, as you can already see in his very first appearance in the amnesia arc. And before anyone says anything, the reason that I keep on reading is STILL because I want to get to the end and either get closure or see an actual ACTUAL redemption arc where PZ actually ACTUALLY changes and faces actual ACTUAL consequences. And also note it down for sb checking the comments for context and tw, like I wish I could’ve.
Only BL

Why can’t my little cute baby and daddy get a little more happiness. The plot is good but too humiliate on Daddy Lord Pei . And also my Little Cute Baby endured and suffered many f**k things .

@BlumHanae I wonder too if the manhua will give Pei Zheng a more proper redemption, maybe, because there are lots of things in the story yet to come, so they could take advantage of that. So far in the manhua Pei has had a mindset change but he still is not seen as open about his love, they are being more reserved about the love feelings overall and staying as “brothers” so far, maybe because of the bl censorship in china. And about Yi’ers mother, I don’t remember the exact manhua chapter but Cheng Feng did ask Pei Zheng like “why don’t you tell the truth and tell him you didn’t do it” but he was stubborn and said he didn’t need to give explanations to anyone. So basically he just didn’t tell the truth to Yi’er, maybe because he thought Yi’er shouldn’t have doubt him like that and believed his fourth brother instead (but well how was Yi’er supposed to trust him, when Pei had lied to him before about the marriage thing and was terrible at communication skills overall 😅, plus Yi’er wasn’t that smart back then).
But in the novel it is more clear that Pei wasn’t the one involved. He was still a teenager under his father’s rule at that time and his father was the prime minister back then, so he was the one scheming to get Yi’ers mom out of the way and succeeded. His father was a cruel man afterall, he was the one who abandoned Pei when he was lil and left him on the streets as a beggar and later sent him to the shadow guards, where they train guards to forget their feelings and become like a puppet for their master (that’s where he met Chengfeng). It isn’t openly said but it is implied in the novel that Pei rebelled at one point and killed his father or was behind his death, and that’s how Pei became the current prime minister and abolished the shadow guards training for others.

Spoilers ahead:
And about his mother, firstly, PZ had several chances to deny he was the one that came up with the plot to kill her, secondly, didn’t he literally say something like, and I’m paraphrasing here: “I achieved my revenge towards him (QCY, but it’s later revealed that it was QCF that he should be getting revenge on (NOT BY GETTING SOMEBODY KILLED, ESPECIALLY NOT SOMEONE INNOCENT)) whatever whatever, you (QCY) and your suffering are just an accident”???? Even if he isn’t the one that gave her the poison, as far as I’m aware, he is the mastermind behind her death. But it’s mainly him not denying it when he knew how important QCYs mother was to QCY that makes no sense if he wasn’t the schemer.

Spoilers ahead:
Considering the fact that up until atm (ch 98), PZ has not changed in his behavior towards others nor has he actually atoned and left QCY alone nor treated him any better, it doesn’t seem like there will be a satisfactory redemption arc, where after getting the proper consequences, he, PZ, changes into a non-maniac. Honestly, looking back a bit, it would have been better if the story had ended with QCYs suicide, with the plot afterwards being an entirely separate book with an entirely different mc. Instead, the amnesia plot device made the story look cheap by allowing PZ to get by without facing any pushback, neither physical nor mental. But, in the case that PZ does actually face equal punishment, either through others or himself, I really think this story would be great and recommendable. The way it’s going rn tho, it’s a complete romanticisation of abuse and unconditional forgiveness, even making the latter seem like a virtue to strive towards.
To all victims: Your abusers aren’t your lovers, their twisted love is unworthy of being labeled love, if they can even feel something remotely close to that. You don’t have to forgive to move on if there aren’t any grounds to forgive on, instead, respect yourself, call a spade a spade.

@blumhanae yes, this one is definitely an angst story since chapter 1, and it’s a novel adaptation. it’s not really for everyone in that sense, because it has this kind of angst + redemption story trope. But to be fair, the redemption arcs in the novel are more satisfying and better developed than in the manhua. In the novel, one can actually feel the sincerity of the ml and how he is devoted to change his ways for the mc for the better, which I haven’t been able to feel as much in the manhua. But the manhua hasn’t finished (it is in chapter 98 atm) and there is still a long way till the ending, so I still have some hope that they will actually show more of the character development in the manhua for the ml just as he has in the novel. Also I want to clarify about the mc’s mother’s death, because i have seen before other commenters confused about it, it wasn’t Pei Zheng who was behind it, it was Pei’s father. The Mc’s fourth brother was falsely accusing him there when he said it was Pei Zheng.
(Also I don’t recommend the novel to anyone during the beginning chapters, because Pei is worse in the novel on these starting arcs, so avoid the frustration lol). But the redemption arcs of the novel I do recommend, to those interested they start in chapter 83 😄

*update*
Ok girliepops, a new chapter just dropped, everything I just said is up until chapter 98, and w stuff happening, I have a slight hope that there will be change and freedom for our QCY. I’ll write it down tho (lol this is more like a reading log upsie, forgor that I’m also a first time reader > <)
BlumHanae
For first time readers, don’t trust the comments. This story is not for anybody that has an ounce of self respect, sensibility, a moral compass or the likes. Up until chapter 50, the whole story is just the easily avoidable suffering of the mc, all caused and schemed by the ml, never even gaining anything.
Twigger warning for this manhua: Manipulation, insinuated grooming, romanticisation of obsessive behavior and stalking, as well as of physical abuse, emotional abuse, rape, attempted suicide, exploitation of a mental handicap
Spoilers ahead:
In the first half, as mentioned, the mc suffers greatly at the hands of the ml. He’s put into life and death situations by him, made to feel unstable and unsafe, isn’t allowed to get a support system, is dependent on the ml for everything, including basic necessities, doesn’t have any autonomy, is physically abused raped and on and on, to the point that all he wants to do by chapter 50+ is escape the person he once adored so deeply. After attempting to flee, he gets captured and caged by the ml once again, and all he has as an option to finally be free from his is die at that point. That’s also where he finds out, that it was the ml that caused his mothers death, which for the mc, was the beginning of ALL his suffering. So, he attempts to die by suicide. But he doesn’t succeed, and falls amnesiac instead. As you can guess, it’s one of those stories: They get their great love back, the ml doesn’t have to change or face any consequences, isn’t held accountable and keeps going exactly as he did before. The mc is once more within the grasp of the person he was hurt by the most. And the thing is, the author does show that they CAN write character development, even for cannon fodder, like the third princess, one of the mcs sisters. But apparently, the ml is perfect as he is. Of course, it’s not like anyone in their right mind would forgive the ml for driving them to suicide, that he would rather see them die then have them be free, but if the ml had shown remorse, at least it would have been a bit more comforting.
People, don’t make the mistake I did, don’t be deceived, this storyline and the romanticisation within it are disgusting and disrespectful towards real life victims. Instead, go read “I’m sick” or something like that, where the mc has some autonomy and some honor and grace left, where the author at least shows some awareness towards and through their characters.

@pebble_pudding this manhua is still ongoing but this site is up to date so far on the releases ✨️ The raws are posted on a chinese manhua site by the manhua team on saturdays and this site uploads the translation almost always on sundays 😊

For first time readers, I know that Pei Zheng is extremely despicable and not fun to read about, but if you just stick with it, his redemption arc is incredibly satisfying

Novel is called Dianxia Qingcheng

This is one of my fav angst.
Pei Xiang is a lot better in the novel than he is here. Here is seemed a lot emotionless and shrewd. Especially when the prince disappeared and when he woke up, his reaction was so unbothered in manhua. But it novel, the reaction was much satisfying.
Dude went to find his little prince all by himself in the heavy snow and spent all of his qi energy. Because of the miracle doctor YuBai, he still lives and still secretly searches for ChangYi.
In a nutshell, manhua version is good but novel version is better.

This one is interesting, I thought it was going to be a typical toxic relationship so I hesitated to read but I’m kinda glad I gave it a chance, seems it could be a story with character development because it is getting kinda cute (I’m on chapter 18 so far). Looking forward to read more of where this is going!
