Me casually reading these comments here. I can understand why some people think Hill is selfish, they probably have a lower ability to perceive empathy, and can only see things on a surface level perhaps. I’m not saying I’m happy with Hill’s decision, and what? Separated for 3 years?? I know, it is hard. But staying would have not made Hill happy but only increased his depression. What Hill was going through was depression, it f**king can’t be controlled, get it?
Hill was indeed going through depression due to post partum and also due to the war. If he stayed just because of the baby, with his emotions he still wouldn’t have been able to take care of the baby. Eventually, he would have just withered and died.. He needed time to settle his emotions. Imagine your own selves in his shoes! You love your family, you know they did wrong, but can you just be okay to let them die, so that you can live with your lover.
Also, no need to call people names just because they don’t agree with you. Reading the comments, it’s clear who started being so offensive.
Some of yall don’t understand what depression is, it makes you lose all sense, and your will to live. What you are asking for him to stay in the palace, live there and pretend he is alright, and somehow pull through! It’s THAT Easy~

I haven’t read this in a while and I’m now going back to it but I’m still siding with this…. hill is still acting bratty because xu ming did all these things for him and hill cant even accept the small things but still goes ahead to think abt his kid and ponder abt shit he always says he doesn’t want. he just needs to genuinely make up his mind and then maybe I can start liking him better. like damn, do you want to accept xu ming’s feelings for you and have a loving family or just be exiled and get NOW FUCKING ASSASSINATED BC NOBODY LIKES UR BLOODLINE AND U DONT EVEN HAVE XU MING TO PROTECT YOU. I have never blamed hill’s decision of freedom, he was honestly going through depression and guilt, and his yearning for freedom was understandable, i just wished ,they had both came to a solution together, instead of separation

Idk if I would say hill was selfish or not, but neither of them expressed their thoughts. It was wrong of hill though to just say the MC only loved him because of the mark and couldn’t possible love him otherwise. Then just decided that since they were enemies before it’s was best for MC that he left. I really hate when characters do that, just decide what is best for the other character.

People want to use the excuse that it’s a complex story to stop readers from forming their own opinions. Is it so hard to accept the fact that some of the readers hate Hill for being so selfish and a coward. Did any of us judge you losers for siding with Hill? Get a life. The World doesn’t revolve around any of you Hill defenders. Imagine arguing that readers of a “complex story” should not feel a certain way about the story.
Go stand with Hill of whatever, we don’t care. Whether I read this or not is upto me, other losers don’t get to choose it for me. Like ***** fuck off, it’s just a story that you guys bark for hours about the chastity of some character.

@soeniaa yes, I know what you mean, on the one hand, Hill is selfish, but on the other hand, this story isn’t easy. You can apply the classic case here, about good and evil….consider the situation that gave rise to this bond in the first place. Hill would be hunted down by his own family, his father himself demanded the abortion, and to be honest, I see it as Hill wanting to distance himself in order to get some emotional distance, because to be honest, Hill would have stayed with them and the child…YES, he would have been given the role of mother, but he wouldn’t have been accepted by the people themselves, only the child would have been recognized as an official family member, and he would have led a life in the shadows, and he recognized that. Xingmu thinks more with his heart. Hill, on the other hand, is very realistic and probably recognized very early on where this would lead, and to be honest, I personally wouldn’t want him to lead a life in the shadows, where people talk contemptuously behind his back because of his origins….I’m certainly not defending anyone here, but you have to look at both sides….I certainly don’t think it’s okay that he is so emotionless towards his child, but I honestly understand it and I find Xingmu’s attempts to make him understand that he has feelings for him, somehow very baseless and not very optimistic….

He’s not just selfish but he’s also a coward that refuses to fight for his love. You left your child for 3 years??? Even after Xing Mu said he could visit whenever he wanted to?
And for those arguing that he can’t love someone who wanted to kill his family, mind you that Hill’s father wiped out all of Xing Mu’s family save for Prince Xu, and yet Xing Mu was willing to love him, change his identity and protect him.
He even spared Hill’s brother despite the atrocities he committed. But Hill refused to fight for their love, if he even loved him, and has been living alright without him for three years, while Xing Mu is slowly dying because he misses him.
Y’all are funny. Hill is selfish. Akira is right and if you think otherwise then you’re not really paying attention to the storyline.
