I did absolutely word it clumsily but I think we took it the broadly EXACT same way – I was just a little confused because we, the audience, have had no indication that he likes women, so what I thought was being said was โyou donโt normally go for guys and – (insert the rest of exactly what you said).
See, the actual real life event that stuck out in my mind when I heard the line is telling one of my best friends I was in love with this girl who was into me too but her parents were likeโฆnot great about it so it wasnโt actually possible to pursue it. She told me โwell you like guys too so you should just date themโ. I thinkโฆmaybe if youโre not bi or queer it might be difficult to understand how upsetting that is to hear. Itโs hard to put into words why, but what it feels like is a combination of invalidation and being told that part of you is dirty and that youโre stupid for engaging with it.
(Trust, i can see how someone could think itโs a helpful thing to say, but if someone who is bi confides in you in a similar way, *do not say that to them*. It happens all the time and every person I have ever known who it has happened to has hated it.)
Ditto with the thing about the ages on clumsy wording – no, I donโt think Chengxiu has lead him on or is interested at all, I just mean the main relevant reason it would be weird *IF HE DID* was that the kid is a teenager. ๐ I just worded it badly.
And yes I FULLY ABSOLUTELY agree itโs the kid who has the issues ๐ Heโs immature and teen boys gonna teen boy

1. I don’t believe he reminded the kid of his liking girls to tell him “you’re not gay, I know your orientation better than you”, I took it as “You’re capable of liking women, in this unaccepting society, perusing one would be a much easier choice. Highly recommend. ” I believe it’s considered really rude to speak so straightforwardly like that in China, though.
2. I never once saw Chengxiu accept Ji Yuanqi’s pursuit in anyway, let alone going after the child himself. After persuasion failed he just treats him like a child with a crush, waiting for him to grow out of it, not taking it seriously.
Really it’s the 19 yo that has issues, mistaking kindness for interest, blowing up about everything, trying to chase someone who is a decade older than him (who has made it clear he’s not interested) in a casual manner as if this could never have negative repercussions. He’s so immature it’s impossible for me to root for him, but I also don’t dislike him, he’s an okay kid and it’s nice for Chengxiu to have a little buddy to keep him company.
I’m just scared for him (well both of them) now that the pos Shao Qun has reared his ugly head again.
