This chapter is so good. When I read it in book it was still a bit unclear( translation cannot convey 100% of the vibe, nobody is at fault) but seeing it drawn so well, it becomes more clear WHY Xiao Chiye is acting so outrageously against who is essentially looking like an innocent prisoner. In XC’s perspective the excessive show of repentance is borderline farce and the lines Lanzhao speaks does reek of artifice.
Its so funny XC suspects him of colluding with the Empress( he is correct but also doesn’t know he is wrong also…spoiler* he is colluding but for his own ends* ) and Lanzhao is so petty he wants to HAM IT UP rather than hide it or clear the confusion because he wants his attention so bad HAHAHAHA
