But the real reason was, this fandom (the novel is hugely popular in China) had a major ‘ship war’, The incest ship (Suilin/Suiying) vs the canon ship (Li Yu/Jian Suiying). So the canon shipper find the brother too ‘good looking’ and threatening…and they demand a downgrade to his looks. They used the ‘plagerism to mobile game character’ excuse and attack the artist. So the artist avoided drama changed the brother’s appearance. even though older fan art of the book has ALWAYS depiced the younger brother looking like this (except with black hair). They could have just re-color his hair to black.
