Ok so I happened to see this window opener and there’s one more thing eating at the inside of my head that I wanted to express:
Ranshen being a secret asshole DOES NOT MAKE JUNLI BETTER. And what bothers me even MORE is this: Qian has no friends…the story hasn’t even allowed him a connection with the one person who might ACTUALLY be sympathetic to him and see him as a human being, which is the fox. There is NO REASON for him to be so isolated…if Junli ACTUALLY WANTED TO HELP HIM, he would be trying to help him find friends and connections. But he isn’t.
Look, chase your bliss and read and write what you like – there’s NOTHING wrong with wanting to engage with a story like this! Hell, I’ve just heard there are mermaids later on and I’m SO EXCITED to see how the artist portrays them, because I LOVE MERMAIDS! I’m here for the fox too! The ONLY thing that actually makes me a little sad as a queer person is the difficulty in finding an adventure drama in this genre that doesn’t have a rape scene between the main couple.
