UGGGGHHHH…I know I’m risking people ripping me a new one for being a Hua defender, but like…I’m going to. He’s basically correct here, like oh my god, they’re both completely trapped. One of them is a slave and the other one just doesn’t realize that’s exactly what he is too. The marriage also doesn’t give LiQing a claim on the Prince’s dick, and LiQing KNOWS the Prince isn’t interested.
And all that said, I do entirely get that a big part of the tragedy is that LiQing is a basically sweet, extremely sheltered kid walking headlong into a situation he’s entirely unprepared for.
I wish I wish I wish LiQing would reach out to Hua – Hua is abrasive and bitchy, sure, but he also someone who LiQing could use in his life because he has a completely accurate read on what’s going on, and LiQing could like…restore his faith in people, which he’s clearly lost. I think that the way this is set up, the two of them could form a really beautiful friendship and bring out the best in one another. Like, damn, if the story was about these two, it could end with Hua being reinstated and both countries making peace. You would think too that LiQing would be sympathetic considering what Lian went through.
Like…I just can’t hate Hua. The poor kid is a slave, and I can’t honestly fault him for trying to sabotage the lives of the people who are keeping him prisoner and whose families personally destroyed his life and probably murdered all of HIS family and also trying not to die tossed aside doing hard labour by keeping the Prince’s interest.
Screw the Prince and his family, I wanna read about these two working things out, dammit.
